The COPPY Machine is located in our NW Calgary studio and uses over 90 DLSR cameras to instantly capture all angles of our clients.

The COPPY Machine was inspired, in part, by a dog named Coppy (Copernicus). He was the model for our first successful 3D print which we captured with 24 photos using a single camera. I decided to develop a fully functional multi-camera 3D capture system and early on started calling it the COPPY Machine.. We were deeply saddened when Coppy passed away the beginning of January 2018 but feel he has left us an amazing legacy.

Our 3D studio is located next door to Back in the Pack dog daycare, our first business started in 2004, and In 2007 I began developing my pet photography skills. By the end of 2015 we had a fair number of elderly dog clients attending our dog daycare and the idea of capturing them as they are, in full colour 3D, was too much to pass up on. In Jan. 2016, when new technology and new software made the concept of 3D capture and 3D printing possible for individuals, I took the plunge.

We teamed up with SAIT's Applied Research department to help with 3D rig design and to write custom transfer software which was a huge help in the development of a fully functional 3D capture booth. It took some time but by late 2016, with a lot of trial and error, we had our first working rig. Now we have a fully functional 3D capture system which we call the COPPY Machine.

The COPPY Machine has the ability to instantly capture all angles of our subjects (including their wagging tails). With our custom transfer software we are able to render an amazingly realistic 3D model of our subjects and from there we can print a full colour 3D printed figurine which, as you know by now, we call a COPPY.
